Switching from OurHome · Updated October 2026

OurHome is gone. The chore chart doesn’t have to be.

OurHome was one of the longest-running family chore apps: assign a chore, award points, trade them for rewards. As of October 2026 it appears to have shut down — the app is no longer in the App Store in the US, UK or Australia and ourhomeapp.com doesn’t load. We couldn’t find an official closing notice. FamilyDash keeps the parts families relied on and builds the rest of the household around them.

What you keep

  • • Chores assigned to each child, on a schedule.
  • • Points for every chore, traded for rewards you choose (Pro).
  • • Kid logins with no email or password.
  • • A shared shopping list.
  • • A family calendar.
  • • No ads.

What you gain

  • • Chore rotation so the same kid isn’t always on dishes.
  • • Daily streaks with a celebration when a child keeps one going.
  • • Routine charts — picture checklists for morning and bedtime.
  • • Real money instead of points when the kids are older, with a payout ledger (Pro).
  • • Calendar sync with Apple, Google and Outlook — one free.
  • • A fridge-tablet layout the whole family can see at once.

Before you delete OurHome

There’s no export we could find, and the website is down, so the phone the app is still installed on is the only copy of your family’s setup. If it still opens:

  • Screenshot each child’s chore list, including which days each chore repeats on.
  • Screenshot every point balance.Kids remember exactly how close they were to a reward, and balances don’t move between apps — pay out what they had, or count it toward their next reward.
  • Screenshot your rewards list — what each reward costs in points is the part families most often forget.

  1. 1. Sign up with Google, Apple or an email link, and add your kids during setup. No card needed for the free plan.
  2. 2. Choose points. In Settings → Chore Rewards, set rewards to points so chores earn what they did in OurHome. Rewards are part of Pro, which starts with a 14-day free trial.
  3. 3. Re-add your chores from your screenshots. Give each one its days, and assign it to one child or let FamilyDash rotate it between several.
  4. 4. Settle the old balancesfrom your screenshots, so no child feels they lost what they’d earned.
  5. 5. Give the kids the family code. Each child taps their name and picks their own PIN the first time they sign in.
  6. 6. Invite your partnerfrom Settings → Household members, and connect your calendar if you want everything in one place.

Common questions

Is OurHome shutting down?+

It appears to have already gone. As of October 2026 the original OurHome chores app (by Cape Horizon) is no longer listed on the App Store in the US, UK or Australia, ourhomeapp.com does not load, and AlternativeTo lists it as discontinued. We couldn't find an official shutdown notice or a closing date, so treat this as a strong signal rather than a confirmed announcement. If OurHome is still installed on your phone it may keep working for a while, but there is no way to reinstall it on a new device.

Are the new apps called OurHome the same app?+

No. Apps such as "OurHome by Elusios" and "OurHome: Family Planner" are newer products from different developers. Your old OurHome account, kids, chores and points don't carry over to them.

Can I export my chores and points from OurHome?+

We couldn't find an export feature, and with the website down there is nowhere to download one. If OurHome still opens on a phone, take screenshots of each child's chore list, their point balances and your rewards list before you delete it. Re-entering the chores and rewards in FamilyDash takes about ten minutes. Balances start from zero in a new app, so the screenshots are also how you honour what each child had already earned — pay it out, or count it toward their next reward.

What's the best OurHome alternative?+

If chores and points were the reason you used OurHome, FamilyDash covers both and adds chore rotation between kids, daily streaks, picture routine charts for mornings and bedtime, a shared calendar that syncs with Apple, Google and Outlook, a grocery list and a meal planner, all free. Points and rewards — or a real-money allowance ledger instead — come with Pro. Kids sign in with a PIN, with no email address, and there are no ads.

Does FamilyDash use points like OurHome did?+

Yes, on FamilyDash Pro. Each household chooses whether chores earn points or money, so a family that liked OurHome's points can keep them — kids earn points for each chore and you decide what they can be traded for. Families with older kids often switch to money later, and the ledger tracks what each child has earned and what has been paid out. Chores themselves, with rotation and streaks, are free.

Can my kids use FamilyDash without an email?+

Yes. Kids sign in with your family code, tap their name and enter a PIN they choose themselves the first time. No email, no password, no app store account. They see their own chores and streaks.

How much does FamilyDash cost?+

The free plan covers chores with rotation and streaks, routine charts, unlimited kids, the grocery list, the meal planner, push notifications and one connected calendar, with no ads. FamilyDash Pro is $4.99/month or $34.99/year after a 14-day trial and adds chore rewards (points or money), unlimited calendars, recipe scanning and meal-plan auto-fill.
