AnyList has spent over a decade on the list itself: items sorted by store aisle, filters per store, recipe import from any website, an Apple Watch app, reminders that fire when you pull into the parking lot. Its online shopping, added in 2022, connects to Instacart and six other services. You sign in to the service inside AnyList, and it then walks your list one item at a time — show the item, pick a match, add it, tap Next. AnyList says that works in the United States only, and only in its iOS and Android apps. Most of the extras are in AnyList Complete: $9.99 a year for one person, $14.99 for a household.
FamilyDashtreats the grocery list as one part of running the house. The list sits on the same screen as the shared calendar, this week's meals and the kids' chores, on whatever is on the fridge. Planning a meal adds its ingredients to the list. Pressing Shop on Instacart sends the whole list at once and opens it as a shoppable Instacart page with the items matched, on any device with a browser, for households in the United States and Canada, with nothing to sign in to until you check out on Instacart. All of that is on the free plan. Pro ($4.99/mo or $34.99/yr) adds recipe scanning from photos and TikTok, meal-plan auto-fill, allowance and unlimited calendar connections.
The honest version: if you want the best list for one shopper who uses several stores and services, AnyList has more list features and more retailers. If the list belongs to a family, should be built from a meal plan, and the Instacart step should be one press from the fridge, FamilyDash was built for exactly that.
Put the list where the family can see it.
Shared list, meal planner and Shop on Instacart are free. No ads. 14-day Pro trial when you want recipe scanning and allowance.
